A Nurse Giving Back... Doing the Avon Breast Cancer Walk!!!
Monday, March 05, 2012
It's been awhile since I've blogged, but I wanted to share the really cool thing I'm able to participate in. I am a nurse on a Medical/Oncology floor and a few of us nurses set up a team to do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer! 39.3 miles in two days!
I'm soooo exctied, but very nervous about that distance. I think it'll be great to honor our patients this way. We care for those with wonderful recoveries and also care for those during the end of their life. They receive chemotherapy and radiation which can have horrible side effects. Many have white blood cell counts that are very low and need special care for high risk of infections. I struggle every night at work to manage their pain. We are doing this walk for them.
Please see our Team Page: We are the "B3 LifeSavers"... If you are interested in seeing our page or even donating to our cause we will be SO appreciative!
I'll keep updates on the walks, training and fundraising. 3 miles tomorrow! and I'm even throwing in a spinning class (ouch!).
If anyone else is doing the walk and have tips for me, please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you!
