Still trying

Thursday, March 01, 2012

Well, here it is, March 1, and I have gained 5 pounds since my last post. HMMMM. I see a trend here. I don't keep promises to myself. I have set a goal to lose 20 pounds by the end of may. This will put me at 155. This is an achievable goal. I have started tracking my calories again, because it works. It is tedious, but it works. To simplify, I plan out my menu, and put everything in ahead of time. Thus, no surprises. My goal for today is to eat no refined sugars, only those found naturally in fruit. So far so good. Candy, and sweets are my greatest weakness.
I had a physical done, and my blood work came back great. My thyroid seems a little on the low end of the normal range, but my doctor doesn't seem concerned. I think that if I don't lose weight after a month of tracking everything I eat, I will go back in and have the thyroid reevaluated.

I can relate. The 150's are beckoning me, too. Tracking is tedious but it does offer up useful information about nutrients like protein and fiber and fat - all things we need if we are to be stronger and healthier. Sugar has been a weakness of mine. I gave up sugar for Lent so I am on day 8 and I still have cravings but have said no to the offers of candy, etc. and felt better for having said no. I had my thyroid tested a year ago and it was a bit low, then had it tested several months ago (my doctor's suggestion) and it was even lower so I am on thyroid meds and am having it re-tested again this month. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I can relate. One thing I will mention to you, that works for me, is that I stopped "trying" (which tells me I have an 'out' when things get tough) and I started doing, instead. I have not done anything perfectly in my last 14 months on SP, but I am down 30some pounds, and am WAY stronger than I was at the beginning of last year. Keep making those good choices - they add up and the pounds decrease. emoticon
