Holy Smokes, It's Working...

It's my "Weigh-In Wednesday", and I'm so excited to report a loss this morning! I've lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks, which is a nice steady pace for me. Usually I go all out and make too many changes at once. I inevitably "crash and burn", gaining back all the weight I lost and then some.

I'm a former weight loss program junkie - I've tried them all. I'd see progress at first, but nothing really stuck. So I figured all those programs must just work for everyone but me (deluded, I know.) The truth is that *I* wasn't working those programs. I wasn't incapable of doing it, they just weren't for me.



Now I'm relying on the basics...calorie counting. At some point I'll focus more on macronutrients like carbs or fiber, or eating fewer processed foods, because I know these things can make a huge difference. In fact, it'll probably help the weight come off faster. But as much as I'd love to reach my goal quickly, the thought also scares me. I have to give myself time to adjust so that I can actually maintain my healthier lifestyle. Oh, and I'm also walking more, which makes my body (and my dog) very happy.

So I've created a formula to keep me from burning out: Trust God, Trust myself, and K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Sweetie.)

    First, your formula is PERFECT! You are doing so great! I know for me, I could never do both exercise (hard stuff) and diet, so I start with one, and then add the other. It helps me from burning out and feeling like I am working with no rewards. In January, I started eating healthier and making better choices. In retrospect, I probably should have started the fitness part, but hey, hindsight. At the end of January, I was ready and started working out. It was HARD. But I stuck with it for a week, then two, and not only did I notice things fitting better, but I also noticed it got easier AND I was making even healthier choices with my food.

    I am proud of you for doing so well! Keep with it, and I bet after a few more weeks, you will feel encouraged to step it up to the levels you were thinking. But continue to trust God and yourself, because it will help you keep it off!
