What a weekend ahead!

My nerves are starting already....for my son - he has his final High School Championship diving meet this evening. This is the meet that determines who goes to the State Championship in 3 weeks. He has never made it to the final cut and is perhaps "hoping" too much and I am concerned about his psyche should he not make it to the final round of 16 divers...States is a reach. It is such a subjective sport - like iceskating. He hopes to do really well so that he finally has a sports accomplishment (in his mind) to go along with his academic...why do kids put so much emphasis on that. He is a National Merit FINALIST, headed to the US Naval Academy in June and an Eagle Scout....not bad accomplishments for high school - but for some reason, the sports one is so coveted.
Then I get to go through it all again with his sister at her District diving meet Saturday morning. She is accomplished in not only diving, but in swimming and field hockey - so she is not as mentally "invested" in the sport. She qualified for the District swim meet as well and played in the District Field Hockey tournament....see I too fall into the "bragging" side with sports...she is the unsung academic - pulling A's in honors courses her Jr. Year. Not the superior standardize test taker her brother and older sitter are, but I know she is going places.
Come Saturday afternoon we are finally having family in to celebrate all the February Birthdays - me, both sons, 2 sister-in-laws! Fun times to take the nervous belly away.
Next week - here I go again. Youngest son - Freshman - is in the District swim meet on 2 relays expected to make States...ooops, Philadelphians are not supposed to speak like that...we're terribly superstitious with our sports. Most of the other boys are Seniors and one hopes to make a qualifying Olympic Trial time! A lot of pressure for the 15-year old. But he is so quietly focused that it appears almost aloof. He is so ready to go!
If only we could calculate nerves in calories - LOL.
Still keeping to my goals:
1. oil soap woodwork in kitchen
2. clean Living Room
3. clean (2000 sq. feet) wood floors
