Excuse or Valid Concern

So since I am just starting and I want to go slow, I have my goals set for 10 minutes 3x a week. But I went swimming on Monday and burned almost 1,200 calories which throws everything out of whack! I would have to continue 60 minutes 3x a week in order to get to a good calorie burn, but I don't want to be all in just yet. I still have to do strength training as well, and I am scared of a burnout, or unhealthy calorie differential.
Do I continue to workout with my buddy or do I go back to working out on my own at my own pace and time limit?
