The End of a Love Affair

I gave up Diet Coke for Lent this year. Anyone who knows me knows what a big deal this is. I looooovveeee Diet Coke. I drink it all the time. (Really, ALL the time.) And there's a pretty good chance that if you stuck a pin in me, I'd leak Diet Coke.
To borrow the words of Clairee Belcher in Steel Magnolias, I love Diet Coke more than my luggage.
I'm totally hooked, which is why I'm shocked that I haven't had withdrawals yet. I haven't needed a caffeine kick-start today, and absolutely no headaches. The longer I go symptom-free, the more I think "Hey, I can do this!"
Along with feeling less bloated, less jittery, and more clear headed, I'll probably save money. Soft drinks have become oversized and expensive. And they're horrible for your teeth - some dentists call them "liquid chainsaw" (because of the acid, not the sugar.)
I'll probably make the long term goal of giving it up for good, but Lent is a nice start. One day down, 39 to go...
