Made it to the park!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I'm happy I managed to make it out of the house and go for an exercise fast paced walk in the park along the birdwatching trails today! I wasn't sure I was going to make it out of the house at all but around 4pm has been when I've been trying to exercise and/or figure out my energy levels and plans for dinner. Hubby was grumpy it took me so long to be ready to do anything today but once we got out and got going it was wonderful! I found my little lightweight snapshot camera in my purse and he helped me take pictures, and ran ahead of me on the trail to take pictures of me, yay!

This was my first time out to the parks this year and I realized how much I really REALLY love being out there in nature, breathing and looking and smelling and seeing everything. I discovered some kind of berry plant I'd never seen before and took pictures hoping to identify it somehow. I smelled scents really similar to one of my favorite smells of all time, a mossy trickling waterfall somewhere in Lake Tahoe California on the way down a path to Emerald Bay in the 1970s when I was a little kid. I call it "the ZINGY smell" and it seems to be moss related but I have no idea what kind of moss or plants I'm really smelling. But I was really excited to find something like it again 32 years later! I found good smells around some exposed roots and some evergreens that might have been juniper related as I found the little blue berries all over the ground in the mud around that area, they seemed different from all the cedar. I found a really good smelling yellow flowering spiky bush that reminded me of a cross between holly and ivy, with red edges to green ivy shaped leaves but spiky like holly. I found some kind of red flowering plant too, I couldn't figure out if it was a succulent or not but it was interesting. I met 3 different dogs along the trail and more people than I thought I would be out there at this time of year but it's warm right now so it's like a false Spring. Juan said last time there wasn't much of anyone out because it was HOT in Summer. I'm hoping to get out there and other parks a lot more often, I was surprised by how much I NEED this and I haven't been getting it.
