Best Birthday Present EVER!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I (very) recently turned 38, so instead of buying myself a little something nice, I’m making a New Year’s resolution. The way I see it, my birthday marks one more “real time” year our gracious God has given me in this world. So my birthday becomes my true New Year, and my gift to myself becomes a resolution. A promise. A commitment to make my life better in some way.

This year I’m giving myself the gift of weight loss. And forgiveness. Losing weight has been a lifelong challenge, with many, many ups and downs. I am forgiving myself for the abandoned attempts at, among others, Weight Watchers (four times!), L.A. Weight Loss, Jenny Craig, and Body for Life. Whew - it's much easier to move on once you start being kind to yourself.

So, my secret weapon this time around is "Made to Crave" by Lysa TerKeurst. It helps me focus on something bigger than myself (no pun intended!). I'm sure I'll fine tune my weight loss approach as I go, but for now I am concentrating on counting calories. And being who God wants me to be. Calories. And God. I think I got it.

I’ll try not to take myself so seriously, and remember that I don’t have to be perfect in my weight loss journey. Doing anything is better that the way I’m living now. So, Happy Birthday and Happy New Year to me!

I want to share a quote with you that always makes me feel inspired:

"No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow the progress, you're still way ahead of everyone who isn't even trying"

You are worth it. Get back up if you fall, dust yourself off, and try again. Even little steps get you to the same place. Good luck!
