Had a Fun Shopping Trip to Various Bargain Stores

Monday, February 13, 2012

I'm dragging today as I got very little sleep and was up literally for around 3 to 3 1/2 hours with being unable to sleep. If I hadn't woken up anyone I would have tried to straighten out my chaotic kitchen, LOL.

My daughter and I went shopping yesterday afternoon after I finally got all the mountains of clothes washed/dried and we both had lunch. We had to take some items back to Big Lots but ended up not buying anything there. This was a different Big Lots than the one closer to my house so it was fun to see the different things that they had that my store doesn't necessarily have.

We got some much needed fruit at Aldi's and I paid $1.39 a package for strawberries and $1.49 for blueberries, which made my very happy.

We, of course, went to Mighty Dollar (not the new one that opened this weekend) and I finally got my much needed storage container I needed that the new Mighty Dollar didn't have. I plan to use it to store my difficult to store Kitchen Aid mixer attachments. It has a flexible material and is the exact shape that I needed (it's really a refrigerator condiment storage container).

We got lots of stuff there that was new such as very pretty Wilton brand jewel-tone cupcake liners (I love Wilton products), very nice scissors (forgot the name-brand, but they aren't those cheapo scissors you see at Dollar Tree), etc.

We decided to go by the thrift store in the same city as I have been pretty lucky when I shop there. She didn't find any of the Harry Potter books she wanted, but I scored an awesome pyrex mixing bowl that is colored green on the outside and milky white on the inside for $1.99. I want anything I use in the kitchen to feel "special" and I don't know if it is retro or not, but I love the looks of it and have been looking for this type of kitchenware for quite some time. This particular thrift store is sooooo busy every time I go there and I can see why.

We were very pleased with our shopping trip and unfortunately came back home to more organizing that has to be done as I have been moving things in my cabinets from place to place so the counters are covered with "stuff" that has to find another place.

I have FINALLY got it together and put all baking stuff (minus my oatmeal that won't fit in it's new container in the same cabinet as the container is too tall) in the same cabinet.

I realize why I have been so frustrated when trying to cook because the way my kitchen is laid out, I have had to put things just where they fit vs. putting like things together. Well I will make it work this go around and it will be more of a joy and less stressful in the future.

Inflated - That's terrible, I hate when expensive things like that happen.

MEWHENRYSMAM - I'm glad my post made you happy, LOL. My kitchen and house are still not where I want them to be and I realize it will be a somewhat long process to get it there as I have to work on it in spurts and can't finish anything completely.

I'm really happy that I FINALLY got all the coffee and baking items in one cabinet and the coffee items are where they should be (directly above the coffee maker). I've been meaning to do that for a very long time now, but finally got around to it.

Like you, I LOVE a good buy, LOL!

Wow, your shopping and organising really made me happy! LOL I think I am living vicariously through you as I can't get out to shop and my house is a mess! I love Big Lots, dollar stores, Aldi and we even like Aco as the one near us sells unusual things like hoodies and major college/sports hoodie sweatshirts, my husband just got some on the weekend that were amazing! I love a good buy! It sounds like your kitchen is going to be a pleasure when you are done! Good for you! Enjoy!

I try to keep in mind when I am organizing to keep things where they will be used. We have a paper shredder and it sits on an old laundry hamper where I keep brown paper grocery bags to put the shreds in. Then we use them for fire starter in the wood stove or as cat litter if we run out.

Hubby called me a little while ago. His truck broke down on Friday and a bearing went out, $1,100 dollars to repair it.
