Just a VERY quick blog to share with you a little about the mid-winter festivities usually held the first weekend of February each year in the beautiful city of Lowell, Massachusetts.

There are several things that usually go on at this event, kids stuff, a HUGE tent with beer, music & dancing, a snowman competition between local school & fireworks to end the celebration. It's really alot of fun. The one thing I've ALWAYS loved is the "Northern Soup Bowl Competition". This year they had 16 restaurants competing for top honors. Much to my surprise, one of our local hospitals was in the competition. When I spoke with the gentleman at the table I said, "I know you are representing Saints Medical Center, but what is the name of your catering company?" He responded with, "Saints Medical Center". I was REALLY surprised & told him that hospitals serve THE WORST food imaginable. He told me NOT any more. They were serving a crab chowder that was THE VERY BEST chowder I've ever been privileged to eat. WOW was it good. I don't get the newspaper, so I have no idea who won the competition. Unfortunately I was so enamored by the soups, I didn't think to take any pictures, BUT, it wouldn't have really made any difference seeing that we've yet to invent computers that can let one taste foods.

The REAL main attraction is the Human Dogsled Race. I also don't know who won that yet.
Below are a just a few pictures I thought you might enjoy.

The passenger in this sled is a City Counselor & former mayor, Rita Mercier.

Ice sculptures of our beloved Lowla Bear & her Lil Lowla.

No snow this year cause a kink in their plans

I hope you enjoyed the pix of the Lowell Winterfest.

Thanks for taking time to read & comment on my blogs. I've gotta get going to work now. Have a GREAT day!

I went to Winterfest the first year, but haven't gone back. I don't like the cold. Now, the Lowell Folk Festival... that's a different story. I usually participate all three days from start to finish.

Looks like fun! We're only a couple of towns up the road and I spend lots of time shopping in Lowell while my son plays tennis in Tewksbury but I didn't know this festival existed.
