I Passed a Cookie Booth Yesterday

Sunday, February 12, 2012

O.K. I do not make it a habit to prohibit foods from passing my lips. I'm inclined to think that deprivation leads to binging and that just isn't healthy.

Nevertheless, I was very challenged yesterday. A local Girl Scout troop was out in front of the grocery store and I passed by without stopping. It helped that my friend was driving and not me, but I did pass it by.

As an almost 20 yr registered Girl Scout I have to admit that the only times I have been successful in passing by a cookie booth is ...well...yesterday!!!

I was in GS for a few years growing up. I became a leader for the first time while I was at graduate student at UGA. I have spent the last 13 years as a cookie aunt, troop leader, service team product sales member, cookie cupboard, cookie booth chairman, secret shopper--in fact one year i was troop cookie aunt, cookie booth coordinator for one service unit, and cookie chairman for another service unit. I just don't pass by cookie booths!

I know I will encounter another booth in the next couple weeks. I always make a donation or buy a box of cookies when I go by...The last several years, even pre SP I learned that the smartest thing to do was buy a box of the GIRLS favorites, take out one serving, and donate the box back to the troop (for samples or for troop consumption).

In any event as i huddled with the girl scout team this evening it just occurred to me that this was indeed a non-scale victory...I passed by a cookie booth!!!

I have been using the excuse that my husband is a diabetic not to buy any yet. I am still avoiding them every time I go to the PX at the mall. I hope you can keep up the will power not to buy any too.

What willpower...gotta have my yearly ThinMints, I was in brownies and GS. I ordered two boxes from one of my co-workers. I'm going to breakout one box in serving sizes and the other is for my husband. emoticon
