I am still around Spark friends!

Friday, February 10, 2012

Yes, I am still out here in cyberland! I didn't mean to drop completely off the map, I didn't plan to be gone this long!

Two weeks ago, my Mother-in-Law fell of a step ladder a hit her head pretty hard and broke her arm near the wrist. She is fine, sporting a bright blue cast for the next several weeks!

After that event, my "agressive" running program resulted in some sore legs, so I decided to take a week off of running.

My Dad needed surgery on his back and was slower to recover than they had anticipated. Get to be 86 and get surgery and you think you get the whole day off? Good grief! He too is fine and at home.

Those were hickups that may of caused a day of poor choices here and there. The real thing that has been the problem, the thing I have always treasured and protected, my attitude! My attitude went on a little trip of its own. It is okay, I am not making excuses or even care about it! As you can see it is not back! I know where it is though and I am going to go find it and bring it back!

In the two weeks that I have failed to track food, exercise, well, I did track exercise, I just didn't do much, or generally do my normal Spark People stuff, I have not gained much weight, about 2 pounds. I feel fantastic, my body is responding to the rest very well. I think this is exactly what I needed. I am ready to run again, ready to lift weights, ready to walk! I may walk, but i am also going to snorkle and hike, not run.

I am going to Florida and then onto the Caribbean for an 11 day cruise. This is something we have been working toward for many years. In honor of my wife's 50th birthday, we finally get to go. I think she had wanted to do this for her 35th, but it is better when you have time to look forward to it. I know my attitude is on one of those islands, and I WILL find it and bring it back home!

I will gain weight! I will also shed it when I get home. Of course if I get the norovirus, I will lose weight and gain it back when i get home, I am hoping that doesn't happen!

So with the trip approaching, parents wounded, and everything else going on, I just took a break! When i get back i will take a couple of days to regroup, work overtime to catch up (yay, vacation catch up), and then start my training for the race season, and get active here again!

Of course you know, the year we head south is the warmest, driest, nicest winter in along time here!

Be back soon!

We headed south for a cruise last year and left our 17 year old daughter home alone, with two big brothers close by if she needed help. Blizzard!!!!! No getting in or out of our house, so her brothers couldn't come and stay with her and we couldn't even call to check on her. It was difficult. 11 days sounds absolutely fabulous! I hope you both have a great time.

Having aged parents is sort of nerve-wracking, isn't it? I am glad both patients are on the road to recovery. I am glad to hear you are recognizing how much your body is benefitting from a rest period - sometimes our attitudes need a little R&R, as well. THe cruise sounds wonderful - yes, I am sure you will find some attitude adjustment in the Caribbean. Just the color and temperature of the water, and the feel of the breeze, is enough to cause instant relaxation. Have a fabulous time! Just think how rested you will be for race season. Bon voyage emoticon
