Book Store Wednesday!!

Wednesday, February 08, 2012

Today, the kids had a half day at school, which left me grasping a bit for something to do with them this afternoon. There is nothing in the movie theaters that I'm comfy with them seeing right now, and the age difference (4 and 10) make it kind of hard for us all to do athletic activities together. (It doesn't help that my 10 year old is not very understanding of the physical differences between a 10 year old and a 4 year old). I was hit with inspiration...the used book store!! We have a ridiculous amount of store credit with them, and the books are fairly cheap it met MY criteria of a fun afternoon...and off we went!

I am very happy to report that I found three of the 5 books I've been trying to find...AND...I got a rare find today! (I won't spend $20 on a's ridiculous, so I'm waiting for the used book store to get them).

1. The Metabolic Typing Diet--I've been wanting this book FOREVER because I think it's a neat concept, and if nothing else, at least worth the read. It deals with the fact that (gasp) not everyone's bodies lose/gain the same way, and promises to help the reader figure out what type of eating/exercising is best for them.

2. Syndrome X: The Silent Killer--I did A LOT of research about Syndrome X/Metabolic Syndrome over the last couple of weeks, as it was suggested to me by my doc that I exhibit the symptoms/family history. Mainly, if you have personally or have a family history of diabetes, heart diesese, thyroid disease, and an "apple shape" (carry your weight in your stomach)'re pretty likely to have Syndrome X, and need to eat a little differently than "regular people". True? No clue...haven't read the book yet. :) But it's worth the read!

3. The Cortisol Connection--"why stress makes you fat and ruins your health"...enough said. :) I've been looking for this book not only because of the subject matter, but also because this particular book delves into holistic treatment of the disorder, not just throwing a bunch of Xanax at yourself to "deal with the stress". Again...more for my own entertainment than anything else, but who knows? It might prove useful!

Rare Find: I got the "As seen on TV" DVD set, "Crunchless Abs" for...are you ready for it? $4.50!! One of the 2 DVD's still has the shrink wrap on it!! The other DVD is still sharp!! It would appear that someone (sadly), bought them with the intention of getting fit, tried one DVD once, and scrapped the project. While I'm always sad for people who give up so quickly (mostly because I WAS one of those people for many years who would buy exercise things thinking they would be the magic cure, then never used them), I'm happy dancing for the amazing deal I got on them! WOO!!

The two that I'm looking for (cheaply) are "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" and "Choose to Lose: The 7 Day Carb Cycle Solution". Someday, perhaps, I will come across these at a reasonable price!! :) But in the meantime, I'm pretty happy about the 3 I managed to find today!!

You are going to be one heck of an expert on all types of weight loss! Our oldest daughter is a really fast reader - she loves her Kindle - you must read at the same speed to be able to devour all those books, attend to kids, household and all of the gym activity you do!! And...we all benefit from your shared knowledge - so thank you for all of the reading you do - I'll be lucky to read one book this year! ~bad me : (

    I love that idea!!

I never thought of DVD's at them. What a great way to get some new exercise videos.

I used to do the used book stores when I was younger. Time to look for one around here!

My mother could ONLY go to a used book store cos she got banned from all the local libraries for always losing books! LMAO! She and my Grandma used to share what they got from each of their libraries, but my Grandma always returned hers emoticon
