Lunch.......Eating healthy ISN'T expensive

Monday, February 06, 2012

I went to our local grocery store, Meijer, today for stuff for my lunches at work. I have always thought that, and heard that, eating healthy was expensive. Regardless of that thought going through my head I was determined that I was going to buy myself something healthy to eat for my lunches for the rest of the week. Here was my purchase list......

1. Aunt Millies Slimwhiches
2. Meijer 90 calorie turkey
3. Kraft fat free cheddar slices
4. Honey mustard
5. meijer 1% small curd cottage cheese
6. Seedless grapes

Came back to the office, made my lunch (according to suggested serving sizes).....IT FILLED UP MY WHOLE PLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now to put it to the test.......

First I entered my lunch into the Nutrition calculator.....329 calories......AWESOME! Victory 1 :)

Next I figured out how much I paid per serving for each item

Slimwhiches.......$.37
Cheese...............$.28
Turkey................$.50
Mustard..............$.03
Cottage cheese $.45
Grapes...............$.37

Total per serving.......................
......$2.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!
VICTORY 2!!!!!!!!!

As I'm figuring this all out I'm slowly eating my lunch.....thinking ok.....$2.00 per serving and only 329 calories......but seriously this can't fill me up.

I'm done eating........
I'm Full..........................
.....VICTORY 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So......maybe I can really do this this time.

I definitely can't use the "Eating healthy is expensive" excuse anymore lol.

yes, I shop Kroger,, they have fat free cottage cheese, no difference in taste to me,, also make carbwise yogurt(80 cals per 6oz cup), string cheese (70 cals per string), apples, teabags for hot or iced tea.. it just takes some practice and a little taste testing,,, you did great!
