A New Beginning continued - #2

In early March Kath and I attended an 'open to the public' info session on bariatric surgery held in the grand ballroom at a hotel in south ptld. It was a true cattle call - over 200 people were there compared to the 10 who attended the info session at SMMC. The lady making the pitch was very good. I was disappointed by her sales pitch. This surgery is not something someone talks you into to. It's a personal decision you arrive at. My decision to press on with the process while attended the sessions at SMMC was neither advanced or slowed by what I saw that night. I was still interested and planned on continuing the pursuit.

Over the next couple of months I made contact with a HR rep at Hannaford as well as exchanged email with Aetna concerning coverage at SMMC and /or MMC. I was trying hard to get approval to go through the process at SMMC but I was growing weary of the fight. I wanted to get started.

As July approached I made a decision - I would pursue the program at MMC - a program already by Aetna. Now would Aetna approve me - that was still to come.

On July 14th I had my previously scheduled appt with my General practitioner. I weighed in at 387. While I had thought of asking the Dr. for a letter of recommendation prior to the visit, my weight that day compelled me to ask him for the recommendation. he consented without argument.

Next installment - I'm accepted.
