Pico do Papagaio, 1,260 meters above sea level (4,134 ft), near the small town, Triunfo, Pernambuco, Brazil. Took us 3 hrs and 10 min. It was amazing! My Mon. walk on more or less level ground took 3 hrs and I did 15.94k/9.91 mi. This 8.6k/5.34 mi walk took about the same time - but the terrain was rough and a lot of ups and downs, some steep.
This is a goal reached! 6 years ago, I dared not dream. In fact, I had pretty much packed away most of my dreams! Last year, I could not find anyone to accompany me on this trek, so I did not do it. This year, knowing we were returning to this same location, I decided I would do it! Alone or accompanied, it did not matter, I would go for it!
I started preparing by walking long distance once again. It had been over a year since I had done any long-distance walking. Each time I walked, I added 20 min. until I had built up to the 3 hrs that I figured it would take. Not many hills around home but I did find a few AND, to cool down, I climbed two flights of stairs in our house several times to build up my thigh muscles hoping to relieve the knee pain that I was experiencing. I also varied my shoes.
After I had begun the long-distance again, Carol, not knowing my plan, reminded me of last year's desire and said she wanted to go with me this year. She would be ready! I told Michele (AM.GIRLINBRAZIL check out her blog about the hike with photos www.sparkpeople.com/mypa
) our plan and she decided to join us! Then, Kathi (BRZLLASS www.sparkpeople.com/mypa
) noticed our online chatter and asked me, "Do you think I can do it?" I said, "I am SURE you can!" Wow!!! Look how we sparked each other!!!
Amazing to me, after the Triunfo Hike, I had no pain in feet or knees! Victory!!!
I told hubby on the way to our destination, that the next day I would search out a reward. This has become a good reinforcing habit after I accomplish (OR am consistently pursuing) my healthy-living goals. I purchased two books about the nationally known caçangeiro (bandit) from the early 1900s, Lampião, who is from this area of Brazil.
If you can, go by and congratulate these SparkBuds, for a job well done!
So, you see, one of the BIG "secrets" to successfully reach your goals is to not give up, ever! That is what it took for me to see this particular goal (dream) come true -
After all, This IS My Life!
