Running In The Rain

Thursday, February 02, 2012

Today was a busy day. The girls had their usual 3 therapy appointments and I spent all day driving and waiting. It stormed yesterday so I was a day late on my running schedule, and I was itching to go home so I could run. When I dropped the girls off at school, I got a text message from my husband that we were having last minute dinner guests. The house was trashed because I'd been gone all day. I was really irritated at the thought that I would miss running again because I had to cook and clean!

I told myself that it wouldn't be a big deal if the house was a little messy. I was going to try to fit my run in anyway as soon as I got home. Then the raindrops started and the sky turned grey. I hurried in to change into my running shoes and rushed right back out. As I started running, it started to rain harder. I said a little prayer and told God, "You know, I could use a little help here." "I'm really trying to take care of myself and if you could just not let it storm, I'm okay with running in a little bit of rain."

The entire thirty minutes it drizzled off and on but it wasn't enough to make me turn back. I finished my entire session and walked back to the house to cool down. I got up on my front porch and then I bent down to start stretching. As I did, I heard the whooshing sound of pouring rain. I had been under the overhang for less than 30 seconds. It was uncanny. When I told my Mom about what happened she said, "Well, I guess God wanted to you have that run." I was thankful. Sometimes it's the little things in life...

Love this story! I've been in the same boat in a way, this past week about not being able to make it to the gym. Tonight it's supposed to be snowy and icy...but I think I'll try to make it anyway. Going to workout at home if I can't make it. There's just not a little 3ft tall distraction running around at the gym with me, going to the gym is a lot easier. :)

It most definitely is! Tomorrow is running day again and I find myself looking forward to the feeling of accomplishment afterward.
