Today is day one of living with the lap band. I would love to post a daily blog of how I am doing and what I am feeling but I don't know that I will have the time for all that. But let me start with day one.

All this started one year ago. After seeing the success of a co-worker Kath and I decided to attend an informational session for Bariatric Surgical weight loss at SMMC. There were less than 10 people there as I recall - it was a slippery January evening in Maine.

My coworker encouraged me to attend a group session, also held at the hospital where he had had the surgery. Kath and I attended 2 months in a row. We heard the good, the bad, and the ugly. I was not deterred. I was comming around to the position that this could work for me.

For the next several months I corresponded with the insurance company trying to determine if I would I be covered, where it would need to be done, and what hoops I would need to jump through to satisfy the insurance co's requirements. I met with benefits person at work and discovered my employee policy did cover this surgery but not at SMMC. I would need to consider MMC instead.

Out of gas - to close my eyes. If I have your attention, check back later. I will continue.
