" Does this dress make me look fat.?"

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Ouch! I know the answer. Categorically yes because I am overweight. I have had a lot of functions lately (fund raisers, dinners, etc) and so I have had to stand in front of my closet full of clothes and figure out how the few outfits which actually fit ( due to elastic waists which truly should only be reserved for toddlers in diapers and old people in diapers) can be worn to 4-5 different events and not have people notice that I wore the same thing last night, last week,etc.. I have heard people say that you should go ahead and buy clothes for the size you are right now (mirror, mirror on the wall.. I'm still fat dam-_ it all!) ., but do you guys actually shell out the money to do it? Pay money to "house" your body when you are at your heaviest?

I know this is an old post but - yes, you should buy clothes at your current size. Because ill-fitting clothes only make you look WORSE. Well-fitted clothes (and styled) can make you look better.

Nordstram is very expensive, but the personal shoppers there are amazing. Get their assistance for 1-2 "function" outfits. Hang onto them until you dont need because you are so skinny they slide right off you.

I have had clothes from petite size 4 to Women's size 22. And I've done it both ways; vowing to not buy a thing until my weight came down as well as buying larger sizes. I definitely feel it's better to wear what fits regardless of what the size label says. Being uncomfortable in too tight clothes keeps the negative thoughts swirling in my head and makes it much harder to stay on track.

Oh, and just as a thought...think about selling your clothes on e-Bay. I sold my large sizes and made $2200.00 after e-Bay fees.

I do buy clothes because they do look better.

You need clothes, no matter what size you are! I don't like buying clothes when I've gained weight, but it makes me feel better about myself to wear things that fit and don't cling to fat rolls.

Yes I do shell out the money to feel confident in the clothes that I am wearing no matter the label size. Because, It show when I feel insecure in my clothes. Also, it takes several weeks or months for me to change sizes - using a resell shop helps to lessen the financial strain. I can sell old sizes and shop for discounted new ones that that dont break my budget.

It is true that you look best when you wear properly-sized clothes, even if those clothes are bigger than you'd like to be wearing. However, I wouldn't break the bank on clothes while you're losing weight. I actually do a lot of my shopping for jeans at thrift stores since I know they'll only fit for a limited time. I've already gotten so I'll buy nice shirts because my back and arms are pretty close to where they'll end up. (It's just the butt and thighs I need to finish slimming down....) I'm looking forward to hitting my target weight and going on a real shopping spree. emoticon

Good luck with all your events and remember: you only need 1 little black dress. The shoes, scarves, and jewelry really make the outfit.
