TRANSFORM -- Lifestyle Changes

Transform - verb - change in structure, appearance, or character

I want to go from this emoticon to this emoticon

I want to be strong and have muscles emoticon

To become these things I need to exercise and eat right. Well I have the exercise part down pretty well. It's the eating right and staying in calorie range that I have trouble with.

It's been an up and down journey so far, in December 2006 I weighed 189, by March 2007 I weighed 167, I maintained that weight for almost 4 years, before gaining it all back. So now my focus is on losing that and more to reach my goal.

emoticon I love salty and sweet foods. I am also an emotional eater and when emotions take hold I reach for these foods and consume them until I feel sick at times. This is something I am working on changing. How...well now I am portioning out the salty foods into snack size ziploc bags, so when I do reach for them...I don't do as much damage as eating the entire bag would. I still get the taste and crunch I'm after. Sweet foods (ie., cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, snack cakes, etc.,) I am also watching portion sizes. I didn't do this in the past.

Other changes: I am also reaching for more fruits and veggies to satisfy and fill me up. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Exercise, using everything from treadmills, exercise bike, walking, running, weights, dvds and the Wii and XBox to mix-up my workouts on a regular basis. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I asked for and got some new cookbooks. Recently subscribed to the Clean Eating and Oxygen magazines. Also have been reading The Eat Clean Diet series of books by Tosca Reno. So I am learning as much as I can to help me achieve my goals of being healthy, fit, and more toned.

My SparkFamily and Friends as well as the BLC teams have helped me to realize that I am not alone on this journey and has given me support, motivation, and encouragement along the way.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog.

Wishing you all success on your journeys! emoticon

Sounds like so many of us! I like the idea of prepackaging the goodies into zip locks. My next large temmptation will be GS cookies. If I can keep them out of the house it would be super but the next best would be to prepack and then freeze the rest. Thanks for the tip. emoticon

I can relate. I do better with the exercise than the diet. I love salty and sweet foods too.

It sounds like you are really making some positive changes and I need to do the same.

Dee, you have already achieved so much. Congrats.

When I think about you, this quote of Muhammad Ali springs to mind: "Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."

    You inspire me. Thank you.

Great blog! I love how you mentioned all the different ways you get your exercise. I think it is great that you are not only working on eating better with portions but also clean eating. I am also very interested in clean eating.

Great plan! Your portioning idea for salty snacks in ziploc bags is genious. Something I haven't thought about. I have been good about keeping those portion size down for the most part, but I think that would help me tens times better if they were already in a portion size. Congrats, and best wishes on your continued success!

What a good head you have on those shoulders!!!!

My ds and his wife are on WW and he measures all snacks: cookies, crackers, nuts, etc into snack size bags and writes the number of points on the outside in marker. That way, he knows what he's eating and can keep track. Sound like you onto something with what you are doing.
