I've been working on losing weight and being active for a few years now - haven't we all, on and off again for ages... One of my main reasons for wanting to create this change in my life is for my boys. I want to be a good role model. I want them to be healthy, and active as they grow older. I want them to admire me for the healthy choices and actions. And I want a healthy lifestyle to be something that they grow up just knowing and not something they have to struggle to learn later in life.

Back on August 16, 2008 I blogged about my son, Daston (then 4years old) stating that "I want to be fat, just like Mommy" (This was also the title of my blog if you want to check it out). Anyway, he wasn't trying to be hurtful, he was just being honest and matter-of-fact about it - that's very much his character. And this really stuck with me. I've struggled many times since then, and even set my high weight after that. But I've always tried to remember what it would mean to my boys to have a healthy role model. And hoping one day, maybe I'd be it.

They are my world. And my boys have seen a lot of change and growth (or shrinkage) in me over the past few years. But sometimes I wonder how I'm going to know if I've imprinted on them any kind of fitness or healthy living - will I be able to see something in them that I can directly relate to the choices and efforts I've made? Let's be honest, they are little boys and they are quite active on their own. They don't need me chasing them for them to be busy bees.

Well yesterday morning, Daston (now 7 years old) handed me a note folded in half and although it's a secret and I'm not supposed to tell anyone - this is what it said:

We talked for a while after I read it. Daston said that he wants to teach me strength like Bob (as in Bob Harper). He also said that when he grows up he wants to teach fitness classes and teach people fitness, like Bob. I nearly cried!!!! I do not hide my efforts from them - sometimes that even means doing my BL Bootcamp DVD in the middle of our living room with them. And we sometimes watch Biggest Loser together even. It's nice to know that they really are paying attention. I am so proud that my choices are having a positive impact on my family. Today Daston had a sheet of paper and was planning our fitness class for tomorrow. He said so far there are 9 exercises, and I'm going to be really strong afterwards. I am so excited!!!!! Tomorrow, I will be putting on my gym gear, filling a water bottle and letting my lil' man instruct me.

I am so thankful to have been able to document this in my blogs. Being a mom is the most rewarding thing ever!
