Glazed Donuts

Saturday, January 28, 2012

Sigh... My brother bought glazed donuts and brought some home to share. Wasn't that nice of him! So now they're sitting on the table & I want one. I love Kwik Trip Glazers. I didn't want one until I saw them though. It's frustrating that he knows I'm trying to lose weight & then he does that. I've told him to please keep that stuff in his room but he never does. I feel like he's trying to sabotage me. It's hard enough to lose weight. I don't need someone making it harder. I'm kind of afraid I'm going to blow up on him. I'm trying not to be too cranky during this process but he's really pushing my buttons.

That can be such a difficult and challenging situation, both in terms of resisting the temptation, and in terms of keeping a nice relationship between the two of you.

I know for me, I couldn't have just a 1/4th or a 1/2 of one, so they would be too much temptation, and I would likely cave. Other people can do the "just have one bite" thing and be fine.

I have found that things like that aren't as tempting if they are out of sight. Sometimes I even forget about them. Sometimes I ask the other adult in the house to hide the treats. It really helps.

As for the heart to heart talk, sometimes that's a hard one, too.

best of luck. Even if you slip, you'll never fail unless you give up and stop trying.

It's frustrating and it's such a test of willpower.
Might I suggest looking it (or it's equivalent) up in the food tracker? Just see how many calories it would cost you. Maybe you can decided to have a half or a quarter. Still track it, still measure it out. Maybe you can eat a smaller lunch or dinner or snack to make it fit in.
If you feel deprived, you're less likely to stick with your lifestyle change.
When we had a chocolate cake in the house the other night, I figured out how many calories a 50 gram piece would cost me. And realized I could fit it in.
Treats are FINE, at my house, as long as they are measured and tracked and accounted for.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I remember those Kwik Trip glazers from when I lived in Wisconsin. They're tempting once they're in front of you!

Throw them away and tell him you ate them all...

(Really) The non-passive aggressive way to deal with it is to just have a talk with him. That's easier said than done though. Last night, my wife brought home chinese food even though I had something more appropriate. I didn't have the guts to say anything. I just told her I had a stomach ache and didn't have any.
