I want to be a SKINNY B$@#!

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

: ) Over the past two days, I re-read "Skinny Bitch" by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. The second time reading it was even more entertaining than the first. The organic, whole foods, "clean eating" approach makes a lot of sense to me, especially since there is so much crap in processed foods. Until now, I haven't formally adopted an eating plan other than the commitment to eating under my calorie limit. For the rest of this month, I'm going to try the whole foods approach to see if it is something I can really stick with. I went grocery shopping yesterday and have a good plan in place. Today's meal plan is as follows:

Breakfast:
2 hardboiled eggs with salt and pepper
3/4 cup of 100% whole grain Quaker Oats sweetened with cinnamon and agave nectar
decaf green tea - plain
water with lemon

Mid-morning snack:
Mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries & raspberries) YUM!

Lunch:
Large spinach and romaine salad with chick peas and edamame with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
decaf green tea - plain
water with lemon

Afternoon snack:
Honeycrisp apple - YUM!

Dinner:
Amy's organic minestrone soup
Sweet potato with cinnamon
decaf green tea - plain
water with lemon

Bedtime snack:
Slice of ezekial bread and a tblspoon of natural peanut butter
peppermint herbal tea - plain

The hardest part for me will be to give up artificial sweetners in my tea. I bought some honey and agave nectar just in case I need to sweeten it a little. Also, all of my food is not 100% organic, so this is something I'll build in once I get used to this way of eating. I'll also have to learn how to cook with whole foods ; )

I'm excited to feel the health benefits of this health plan. From what I hear, they are amazing!

I admire everyone who eats like this. I know that this is something that I would not be able to stick with.

Take a little at a time! Otherwise you will burn out! I adopted this whole foods diet because I had to to cure the inflammation in my body, but let me tell you, once you start you will never go back! If you liked Skinny Bitch, you might also like some of the documentaries by Gary Null and the documentary "Forks Over Knives" and "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead." You can find them on Netflix for sure! :o)

Good for you, that sounds really tasty! I too have tinkered with the idea of eating clean, but it's hard living with somebody who isn't interested in becoming healthier and is into processed foods.

Your menu sounds delicious! I've seriously thought about moving toward clean eating, but my husband is such a carnivore, it would be hard for me to stick to a plan! I'm looking forward to hearing about your progress & the benefits of your new lifestyle!

I am on Day Two of whole foods (no processed), and honestly, I don't feel as weighed down. It's nice!

I will have to read that book. I'm interested!

    Good luck with Day One!
