Rough week

Sunday, January 22, 2012

As some of you may know, my granddad passed away this week. He wasn't in the best of health, and over the years there's be many times when we thought we wouldn't have much time left. Last weekend, he was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with septic shock. While in ICU, he was also diagnosed with pneumonia. The sepsis improved, however the pneumonia is what took his life. Thankfully, he had been moved to a hospice facility on Wed afternoon, and my mom & grandmother stayed the night with him. This is what my mom wrote:

"My most precious, honorable, compassionate, generous father is with the angels. He passed this morning at 9am. My Mom and I had stayed the night with him, I could tell about midnight that his breathing was more shallow. He waited till Mom and I got up, dressed and were getting ready for breakfast. I told him we were just going down the hallway for a few minutes so the nurse could clean him up and change his sheets, I put on some of his favorite music, the Brigham Young Universities hymns, told him we loved him and left the room. Before Mom and I even sat down to eat, the nurse came in and said Dad had just passed. It has been the worst day of my life even though I know he his happy now. I appreciate all your prayers and have seen God's hand in this in so many ways. I continue to praise Him though this but still covet your prayers."

Needless to say, it's been rough. My mom suffers from depression & anxiety and is not doing well. She's staying with me right now, and hopefully she'll stay with me a few more days. She could certainly use any prayers. Well, the whole family can.

My grandmother has dementia. So, we're all very concerned about her as well. She had two of her children that live close by that are taking care of her right now.

And so lastly, I'm did not get to go to the SA team meetup yesterday, and while I did very much want to go, I needed to spend time with my mom.

Thank you all so much for the love and prayers.

I almost forgot. This is a praise in this. My cousin Dustin who is serving in Afghan was able to come home early for his R&R. He didn't get to say goodbye to granddad, but he will be able to be here for the funeral. They were VERY close, and this was Dustin's biggest fear when he was deployed again this past summer.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know it doesn't make you feel better, but he is in a much better place now. He is now free of pain and happy and reuniting with family members who passed on before him. If there is anything that I can do, just let me know! You and your family are in my prayers!

I love you, Sarah. You stood by me in spirit while my mother was fading and in person when it came time to give our final goodbye service for her. Just know that I've prayed and will continue to lift your family up for peace, comfort, mercy, and gentle days. I'm glad Dustin is home. I wish he could have said his physical goodbye, but the closeness they shared will always be special and enduring.

Let us know what we can do, if anything. You know we will continue praying and thinking of you. Hugs to you, my sweet friend.
