Aha...it really DOES add up when I make small changes!

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Through all my weight loss attempts, I've continued to make one little mistake that probably has a lot to do with why I always end up overdoing physical activity. I make small changes, and then try to fit in "regular" exercise...the whole time, never counting the impact those small changes have on how many calories I'm burning or how much those changes are affecting how I feel. I knew those changes were supposed to be good for me, but I never considered them to be 'worth' enough to count.

This morning, I (finally) had the bright idea to look up just how much those small changes will affect my weight loss journey and came across this site:

stairway.hc-sc.gc.ca/cal
calc.aro

It turns out that with as many trips to the bathroom as I make during a day, I actually burn *more* calories by making myself use the upstairs bathroom than I can by doing 15 minutes of low-impact aerobics. I now have one more reason to not feel bad about being unable to "regular" exercise - I'm achieving more by making this small change than I would be trying to exercise "normally (which would lead to a flare, and me being unable to do much of anything for at least a week).

That is awesome. I tend to forget about the "little" things too! Good for you for making that effort.
