Teetering in the balance

Saturday, January 21, 2012

I began doing better once more on nutrition, especially, on tracking my eating here on SP, over the first part of January, but fell off track somewhat on fitness, or at least, on tracking my fitness. I am working on clearing clutter out and organizing around the house. I'm STILL putting some of the holiday stuff away, but did finally take the box of New Year's hats and noisemakers and file them away in the basement last week!

I have been learning to use the new tablet that I gave myself as a belated Christmas present, loving its Android OS and okay, I admit it: playing Angry Birds a lot. I liked it until I reached a level that I could simply never figure out how to beat, and then I deleted the app. Too many fun things to do and not enough time to spend obsessing over computer games, for me! I DID find it useful to put a grocery list into Out of Milk, another free app, and do my shopping last week with it. My tablet is a large size, because I mostly want it to tote around like a simpler sort of laptop. So it isn't as portable as a cell phone -- and a lot of the Android marketplace apps assume that you use a device that has a subscription connection to the web, which I'm not going to try to get for my tablet at this point. I do enough web surfing on my cell phone, as it is!

I'm also trying to revive my sewing machine, a Husqvarna Viking machine that is a wonder, but which I've not used much in recent years. When I last tried to sew a quick hem in a knit pant leg, the stitches seemed to be crazy. So I have some "debugging" to do on that front, now -- I've brushed out and vacuumed the machine out, but now need to do some trial sewing. It could possibly just be a wrong needle and improper threading, which they say are the most common mistakes that lead people to THINK sewing machines are malfunctioning.

We had a tiny bit of icy rain and snow last night, I looked out before I headed to bed and everything was WHITE, and that is so unusual for us this year! So it's a great weekend for doing a lot of indoor work, and I have a stock pot with chicken going on the stove today.

Hope you are well, and that your New Year is starting out very successfully!

Hahahaha TheTurtleBear! Yes, self discipline is a strong point, but then too, I know I can always re-install the game, so no biggie. My happy moment of the day though, was that I hemmed those pants I mentioned. I think re-threading is a key, even pulling out the old manual and following the steps. I still need to replace my foot control on the machine, and the bobbin winder got broken a while ago, but those are very minor things for a wonderful sewing machine. And now I can get on with altering the other pants in the pile of "to fix"es. I am short, so I always find I have to hem up pants about 3 inches!
