Moving towards the edge

Friday, January 20, 2012

aka not taking anything for granted.

Things I have learned to not take for granted:

Walking, even just around the house.
Getting into bed, and getting out of bed.
Putting on and taking off socks, and other clothing.
Tying my shoes.
Making the bed.
Cooking dinner.
Sleeping in bed.
Sleeping anywhere.
Going up and down stairs.
Driving.
Riding in the car.
Typing at the computer.
Doing any kind of work, even for half an hour.
Doing handwork and crochet.
Seeing without my glasses (have to wear one pair or another nearly all the time now).
Staying positive.
Standing to cook something.
Pushing a cart in the store.
Picking up my cat.
Moving anything I want when I want (not. can't do it.)
Going on my wii fit balance board (got the ok to try it!)
Going on my recumbent bike (getting ready to do it this week).
Logging my food and fitness (yes, it is in a notebook til I can get it on here) since January 6 - that's 2 weeks.
Being able to sit through an entire movie without my sciatica driving me nuts (thanks goodness for my TENS unit - helps me there).
Sunshine - the winter will end (eventually) and I can put my fears of falling on the ice to bed til the next year.
Warm clothes, home, bed, etc.

It's all a blessing. One day at a time, I am moving towards the edge to get this thing going. Can weight loss be far behind? Getting and being healthy is my main goal, but I so want to be going in the positively negative direction regarding my weight - making the numbers go down. Main thing: health first.

Many of these things I lost the ability to do with all the surgeries, and nearly all of them are back, albeit a little slower, I am moving towards that edge.

I am glad you are finally seeing the path to normalcy. I sure have never taken my body for granted. I have always tried to exercise it and keep it moving and now I have learned to fuel it properly as well and keep most of the junk out. Every little bit helps. Enjoy each day you are allowed to do something! I sure wouldn't be able to pick up a cat! good on you!
