Nutrisystem

Friday, January 20, 2012

Anyone ever tried Nutrisystem? Just wondering. Seems like it would work well for someone who did not cook a lot and was always eating out-----would be a good short term alternative to get started or just to have on hand in a pinch-----but wondering if anyone had tried it and had results. Have found that many times I eat the wrong things simply because I did not have the right thing on hand. I know you have to plan ahead, but sometimes life happens and you can't. Thanks for any information.

I use Nutirsystem and I have lost 78 pounds so far. As far as gaining it back I think it's like any other program or tool used to lose weight. If you revert to your old habits, you will gain the weight back. Nutrisystem DOES teach about healthy eating and it IS quite possible that you will NOT gain your weight back. That is always up tou you, not the program used to lose the weight to begin with.

    I recommend it.

I've never tried NutriSystem, but those people who do use it seem to gain the weight back after they go off it. So if you only used it as a replacement for cooking in a real pinch, it would probably be okay. Not much different than what I do, with a protein bar, some almonds, and an apple on a really busy day.

I think you might like joining the Healthy Cooking Challenge Team? You can start anytime you want, it's purpose is to get your pantry, fridge & freezer cleaned out and stocked with healthy choices, plus get you to plan meals and start cooking some healthy meals.

I agree 100% OBIESMOM2. I was just thinking of it to get me started. Someone had said it was a good way to learn portion sizes, too, and get you used to eating the correct amounts, the right carbs, etc. And because I am on the go so much right now, and for the next couple of months, I thought it would be a good way to have something available quickly. Thanks for letting me know about your husband's success. I may try it for a month or two.

my husband did very well on NutriSystem. He looked & felt great. Once he went off the pre-packaged food, he gained all the weight back plus more.

I'm sure NutriSystem offers programs that include your own foods. IMO, that's the only thing that will work long term. You cannot eat pre-packaged foods for the rest of your life.

even when I was going to WW, I ate very few WW products. It's too expensive, gets boring, it's not realistic (what are you going to do when pre-packaged foods aren't an option?), and I need to make changes I can live with long term.
