Carb Cycling...so far!

A lot of you expressed interest in this, so I'm going to TRY to update periodically (when I can remember to do it)!
So far, I'm REALLY enjoying it!! I thought it would be brain numbingly complicated, but it turns out, this is kind of following the way I LIKE to eat, when left to my own devices!
Some things I've learned so far:
--I do NOT need to eat my body weight in protein every day...that is more for people who are just trying to drop 10-20lbs off of their "normal" (I use the term loosely) BMI'ed body. I'm using my "reasonable" goal weight of 170 as a jumping point, on the advice of John the Super Trainer (that's right...I upgraded him to Super because I'm so happy with him right now for suggesting this!!)
--"No" carb days are the easiest for me. This seems weird to me, because I thought it would be the hardest...but it's so simple to eat on those days that it makes it easier. Protein, 3 cups worth of green leafies through the day, small amounts of "low carb" seasonings like vinegar, olive oil, butter, spices. Not a lot of thinking involved...which suits me. I get tired of thinking about food all day!!
--"No" carb days aren't really no carb days...I still need to eat (according to the parameters of the diet) about 20-30g of carb on these days.
--"Low" Carb days involve me eating around 100-150g of carb.
--"High" carb days really aren't going to be that high, as eating all of that protein all day really fills me up AND makes me feel MENTALLY satiated. Which again, seems weird, because I thought I would be tearing the behind out of the unlimited "good" carbs on these days, but it turns out, I don't feel deprived. And only having bread or pasta in one meal on every third day really is enough for me to feel content with my diet! (at least for now!)
--I don't hate sugar free jello as much as I thought I did. :) My mouth needs a little sweet at times, so I made some SF jello last night, and it did it for me. I can have this in unlimited amounts everyday, because it has no carbs, and it's enough to take care of that need for "sweet". My Crystal Light is also working well for that too...
--I don't think it's wise to do anything more than ST on the "No" days. I started to feel less energetic by yesterday afternoon (no day), so I just took the elliptical I'd done in the morning and left it there for cardio. Cardio burns glycogen (from carbs), and I'm figuring that since I'm not bringing much in on those days through food, my body is going to need the existing glycogen in my system to run my body. This is okay though, because I'm trying to get in more light exercise days, so it fits with the rest of the plan.
--I need to be VERY careful that I don't fall back into the Atkins hole...I can make a no carb diet cry, as it suits my personality type/eating habits...but constant no carbing is bad for me (as I proved with the Atkins fiasco 7 years ago), and I've already been tempted to skip a low or high day in favor of another no!! So I'm going to have to carb police myself with this!
So far, I feel great! No "brain fuzz", extreme exhaustion (to the contrary, I'm feeling pretty energetic!), and my immune system is holding up so far. I FEEL like I'm losing a lot of weight right now...even though it's only been 5 days! The 6lbs. I got to record this past Sunday (I'm fairly sure) were a result of the calorie cycling finally kicking in. Which makes me happy, because if I ever get to the point where I don't want to carb cycle, I have a plan B back up ready to go. I want to stick with this carb cycling thing for at least 4 weeks though, because I promised myself that I would. I might try (if I get bored with it) a repeating pattern of a month of carb cycling, then a month of calorie cycling. I'm REALLY hoping that when I get close to my goal weight (like, 20-30 lbs away) that I can start using the calorie in-calorie out thing that SP advocates. I'm NOT against it...I had 63lbs. worth of success with it! But it stopped working for me, so on to plans B-Z. :)
