Tabata Workout - Week 2
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
(NOTE: I explained in one of my previous blogs what a tabata workout entails. If you want to know more about it.)
I am kicking my workouts up a notch and taking the new YMCA offered tabata class. And it is kicking my butt!
This is what she had us doing today....
Football runners - Ever been to a football practice? If you have, you will know what this one is all about. Football running is running in place at the fastest pace you can go. And that is not all though.... there are down ups added in there too. When they say DOWN you go down to the ground and jump back up as fast as you possibly can getting back into that quick running position. Hard right! Try doing 8 sets of these!
Side Skaters - These are jumping from side to side looking like a speed skater.
Squat Jumps - Want to get your heart rate up? This is one that will spike it up fast. You go down into a squat and jump up pushing your arms up for momentum trying to jump as high as you can go. Doing 8 sets of these almost made me puke!
Side lunge with your knee pulling up - Don't know how to explain these..... or can remember what the trainer called them. But this was a basic cardio class move. You pull your arms from over your head to your side hip and your one knee goes up bringing your arms and knee together. It was basically a move to work your abs. This got my heart rate up but it was also a little breather since there was no jumping involved.
Lunge with a hop - This move I looked retarded doing. I am not that coordinated! Basically your one leg goes back into a lunge and you kick it up into a hop lifting one arm up over your head. We did one leg for the 20 seconds and then the other leg... and so on. Like the jumping squats... this really brings your heart rate up!
I was fatigued after this class but still stayed for the Core Conditioning class. Pretty much the whole time I felt like losing my stomach. Think I pushed my limits today? I do!
