My train has derailed

I need to get back on track. It is going on 6 months of interruptions to my weight loss goals. My list of excuses below actually looks like a life not a derailment. What is wrong with my thinking?

September: Labor Day parties & festivities
October: Vacation and another eye surgery
November: Thanksgiving
December: Christmas
January: A funeral and a birthday

    Nancy - Part of this journey is learning to live when these holidays and vacations and stress comes along. You CAN do this. I bet you can look back and realize you have made some positive changes so be proud of yourself and find those rails!

    Thanks everyone for your support. I look at this now and feel like such a whiner. However, that was how I was feeling that day. And the blog resulted is so many good suggestions, that I don't regret posting it. I need to make some changes to my thought processes!

    It's behind you now.
    Now is the time to get back to tracking and portion control, it does seem the only way to get to goals.
    Just make sure you are eating foods you like to eat and then eat in moaeration. I never want to have borinfg or unhealthy food so I make certain I have a plan of action, even for a fast food place when travelling.
    Don't stress it try to plan it. You can do it.

    I have been on a plateau for a long time but, I have lost in sizes of clothes and gained much better health, they are the other reasons to make good choices. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    We are all in this adventure together. Some good and some bad days but overall we need some time in there to "misbehave". There are so many distractions like holidays that don't seem fair....but I think in the long run they will make us healthier and stronger. Remind me I said this. haha! With me I know it is that first bite. Some of those celebrations I measured and had everything ready on my plate - other times I estimated usually underestimated....and a couple of times I just plain blew it all to heck! Onward we go!!! Maybe by next holiday season we will be stronger and definitely wiser???

    Today is a new day and forget what has happened in the last 6 months...start as if today is your day #1. Our journey is a process and no part of it is perfect and there will be ups and downs and how we deal with those downs is what helps us to succeed. Just remember you can do it!

    Part of the mindset I've been tackling this last year is not automatically associating events with food. I've been attempting to switch my autopilot so that I think about what I'm going to do there and who I'm going to see there, instead of what I'm going to eat there. Katy had some good points too.

    Sorry you're struggling, Nancy.... although I will point out that three of those "months" derailed were really each a single event during that month -- Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. (And yes, holidays are hard, and encompass more than one day, frequently.) Give yourself permission to not count those special days, but make progress (not perfection) on the others. Because "life" always happens.... thank goodness! Good luck!

    Approach each day as a new day, because that's what it is ... forget yesterday and focus on what's in front of you and what you can do today. You can do this!

    You can do it! I read an article here on Spark about "i" statements the other day. Just turns those reasons into "I" statements and see what you are left with.... Like... "I chose to allow this birthday to interrupt my weight loss plans." Or "I chose to have that extra piece of cake instead of foregoing it." See what I mean? emoticon
