First race of the year

Yesterday, January 15th was the first race of 2012 for me.
I was really excited for this race up until this past Friday. I think alot of my doubts were coming from the snow and colder temps.
I had my stuff all laid out lastnight after taking pics of all my UA goodies. So I knew I was all set for this morning. My alarm went off at around 630 and I was on my way to getting ready. I woke up to a tweet wishing me good luck and away I went.

Once I got to the zoo I went into the building to get my race packet and shirt. This is when I realized how cold and windy it was and again had doubts about what the heck I was doing. I skyped a friend for a little bit while I was waiting and he asked how I was feeling for the race. My response was nervous! As soon as I got into the pack I skyped back and said I was now excited for the race to start. He told me to have fun and away I went.
It would have helped if someone was directing the second group on where to go. All of us were waiting by the start line. Apparently we were at the wrong start line. :/ The start for the second group was on the other side of the zoo. I’m so glad that I wasn’t the only one who didn’t know where we were suppose to line up.
I hit the button on my timer once I crossed the correct start line and so here it starts.
I felt like I was one of the only people without a jacket on but thankfully I had my gloves, earwarmer and UA on to keep me warm. :) It took about a half mile in for my shins to stop hurting too. :/ I think the reason they were acting up was because of the cold. It was more my left shin that was giving me troubles but eventually it settled down and didn’t cause me any more problems. Thankfully.
I crossed the finish line. I literally threw my phone up as I crossed over the line and this is the picture that I got. I couldn’t do it again if I tried! :) I didn’t realize it until after I stopped and looked at the pics. I edited it a little bit so it could be read.
When I read my time I nearly fell over, I was bursting with excitement and couldn’t believe I saw the 30’s again! I was 6.21 slower then when I ran my first 5K November 2010. and this time…I WALKED (again!) Between the Jingle Bell Run Nov. 6th and the Samson Stomp today I was 11.17 quicker today! WAHOO!
Today was the 5th race that I entered. There will be lots more to come in 2012! :)
