Grand Canyon Habits

Blogging is not and has never been "my thing". If you look on my page, you will see that my last blog post was over 2 and a half years ago as part of another challenge. I just never think that what I have to say is that earth shattering or of interest to busy people.

But here I am again blogging as part of a challenge! I am to write about a habit that I want to develop. I have already begun a habit that seems quite valuable to me, and that is exercising first thing in the morning. Coming back from America at the beginning of the year (10 days ago), I was quite jet lagged. Waking at 4 and not able to get back to sleep. The first night it happened, I got up and did e-mail. Nice-you are up at the same time as Americans are posting. But the second night (morning), I decided to put the extra time to good use and got out my Nordic walking poles and walked on the soccer field. Perfect-you get your exercise in before the day's schedule fills up with other stuff, you leave for work totally prepared, and you have some quiet time with the Lord while looking at the China Sea and stars in the skies (still quite dark).

We still have 2 weigh ins, but my losses so far have been nominal. To lose my 5%, I need to lose 2# both of those weeks. That is doable, but I will have to either reduce the food or up the exercise minutes to do it since so far, the losses have been 1-1.5# a week (when using my Japanese scale). Pray for me!

Great Blog. I always have the best intentions of exercising first thing in the morning but haven't got going on that yet. I feel good if I get it done by noon.

Thanks for inspiring me to look at this again....

Actually, you are inspiring! I, too, would like to start exercising in the morning. I used to get up at 5 am to workout, but have lost my mojo. Thanks for helping me find it! emoticon

I think first thing in the morning is a great idea too. If I don't make it a part of the morning routine then I spend the rest of the day saying I have to make time to exercise and it becomes another chore to cross off my list. When I do it first thing I can say Yea Me look what I have already done!
I have never met my 5% goal but each time I get a little closer. You can do it!!

Getting up and starting the day with exercise is my favorite way to start the day. I vote that any loss is not nominal, but a part of the journey in the right direction.

    Take care.

I understand about the blogging part. We seem to live in a world where everyone thinks that they are entitled to spout off their opinion about any and everything, and that we all want to listen. But as I have continued my journey on SP, I find that an occasional blog is helpful to me to sort out my own thoughts and feelings. And once I put it down in "writing", it feels like I am making a stronger commitment to my plans and goals. You are doing such a great job on this challenge. Keep up all the hard work, and you will reach your goal (regardless of the timeline!).

I am not much of a blogger this will definitely be a challenge for me. I kinda feel the same...not much to say that is interesting.
Way to go on exercising early. I try to get up and do my exercising in the morning...then I have the rest of the day. Hope you do well with losing those last few pounds!

Far from not being interested in what you have to say, I find you an inspiration! One of the hardest things to do is to recognise where you have been going wrong, and to actually do something about it! So, I say - Well Done! Good for blogging and for the exericse!

Thanks for posting, Mary! You can see from the comments that people do care about what you have to say. It is encouraging to hear about how you are making your jet lag work for you. God bless your continued efforts!

I'm right there with you, if I want to guarantee that I'll get something done I have to do it first thing. In this healthy lifestyle change I have made my time with God that first thing in the morning habit, I'm still working through fitness now that I am back in the US. Jet-lag is challenging but it sounds like you are making wise choices, keep up the good work!

I think you're doing a great job. Even if you don't make your goal by the allotted time, you are much closer than you were when you started. Celebrate your progress and keep your hope!

Mary you've done an emoticon job so far!!! It will be 2 years next month that I am w/ SP and still haven't blogged. This part of the challenge is so hard for me. Maybe I will get up the nerve??? Would love to try pole walking. Wishing you the best the next 2 weeks! emoticon
