Too many goals?

I have wanted to post goals for awhile. But I am in a quandary. After being on Sparkpeople actively for 2 yrs, I feel I should be able to post daily, log all my food, get 8 hours of sleep, get my servings for freggies, do at least 20 minutes of exercise and everything else I "should" be doing...... In fact I "should be" at goal weight.

And yet I am not!

In fact, like many of you, I have gained weight in the last 3 weeks. I don't want to have too many goals and then fail. My self confidence isn't there and failure might send me over the edge.

So my goal for this week (which I started 3 days ago) are 2 things, 1) Turn off the TV at 9 pm and turn off the lights at 10 pm. If I fall asleep by 10:30 and get up at 6:30, I will get 8 hours of sleep. Goal 2) is to drink 64 oz of water daily. I did manage that one yesterday but still have 16 oz left tonight and it is 9:15. So off to drink my water, read a book and have lights out by 10.

    Totally agree about getting enough rest...and here I am at midnight still awake. : ( Give me a book to read and I'm sleepy in 10 minutes, but put a computer in front of me, I'm up for hours. With that said, I'm saying, "night! night!!"

    You can do this!! I don't expect anyone to be "perfect" (which is what you're describing) in two years!! This is a life style/ personality CHANGE. I don't know how much you know about mental illness, but there is a group of mental illnesses called personality disorders. They're people who have an overall personality that society doesn't like, so they're considered to have a "disorder." Anyway, the point is, "psychology" doesn't believe these disorders can EVER be cured because they don't think personalities can CHANGE like that. And that's what we're all here doing!! We're here trying to change some fundamental things about ourselves, our cultures, our families, and our lives. I know for me, food has been a PART of my family life. Overindulgence and delicious foods are a PART of my culture...and here I am trying to eat better, smaller meals!! Crazy!! Give yourself some credit for everything you have done and recognize how far you've come!!! You can do this!! Good luck on your goals!!

    You definitely need to do the type of goal setting that works best for you. And if weekly goals are it, Go For It! The two goals you picked for this week seem very doable. :) emoticon

    Tova, you can do this! Your are wise to pick just 2 things to work on this week! go you!!! I think many of us fail at our goals, but when we do, we either have to rethink them . . . am I demanding to me of me? or sometimes its a matter of picking ourselves up by the bootstraps and heading back into battle. It's a lifestyle change and it doesn't happen over night! you hang in there! we are all in this together! It helps being on great teams too!!! Hugs! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Few goals can be a good thing. Then you don't have to remember what you are trying to accomplish and you don't run the risk of not being able to complete it.

    Hope you enjoyed that book and water!

    Tova I can relate. I think setting a couple of goals is key. Too many will make you crazy!! Right now I set 2 goals for myself. Strength training and cardio. Those are my main...but of course I have about 5 other things that are in the back of my brain and I try to accomplish them but am not beating myself up if I don't. Most of the things we want to do are what we should be doing like you said....so the question is why we don't do them!!!! Don't beat yourself up, just take it day by day and do what you can.

    I really wish sometimes that I lived close to my sparkfriends so we could REALLY do this together!! Especially when we are struggling!! emoticon
