2012 is a new start (where I've been the last year.)

Pretty much all my hard work of losing weight and building up my running endurance in 2010 completely dwindled in 2011. I was surprisingly successful at my photography business and so I completely submersed myself into the world of "self taught" photography. From cameras, lenses, software, editing, web site building, location scouting, etc. I crammed so much stuff into my little brain for the first 6 months so I could be successful at my business.

That's great! But who/what suffered in the long run? My fitness, eating, mostly my fitness. Summer 2011 was so busy with weddings, Seniors, families, children's portraits and photo sessions that I could barely keep my head above water. I would sit for hours at a time editing photos, updating web sites, making CD, ordering prints, etc. I was loving that so many people were interested in my work.

That's great! But what suffered in the long run? My fitness!

If you don't think you can gain back 20+ pounds in a short 8 or 9 months - you would be guessing wrong! Because I did it! And the sad thing is...I knew I was doing it, but wanted to put the success of my business before my health.

So, here we are...2012 has started and I have already exercised for 4 days of it. I'm getting back to my Turbo Kick classes and I am incorporating weights, jogging and walking along with some DVD's to use at home. I not only crave to lose weight, I want muscle definition. Being in my mid 30's now, it is important to keep that muscle definition. I can't believe how fast it just vanishes, especially in my legs where I used to have quite a bit of muscle def. Most of my weight has come back in my waist, gut, face and bottom. Too much sitting around editing pictures and not enough movement. Too many late nights on the computer trying to catch up with my latest photo session.

Plus, my husband has started a new business and that added many layers of stress on top of what I was doing also. We are both self-employed but work part time (as needed) for companies and schools. If we could eliminate those part time jobs (not just yet) it would free up a little bit of time.

I would love to run a couple of races this year and be able to run up to 4 or 5 miles like I used to in the fall of 2010. But mostly, I want to completely tone up. I don't really care what I weigh, I just want to get the layers of fat off of me and really make those muscles show through.

I want to be able to wear sleeveless tops, Tanks and sundresses when I photograph a summer wedding and not feel like my arms are so flabby. I need to lose a lot of my gut also. This is the dangerous fat that can cause heart disease much sooner. So, I definitely need a combo of strength training and plenty of cardio (burn 500 cal. daily) to slim down like I did in 2010.

2011 was extremely successful for my business, but devastating for my body. My priorities and balancing them this year MUST change. So, I don't plan on logging in to SP a lot...just for tracking weight loss and fitness minutes. Maybe post a pic or two of my progress. Lord, I hope there is progress this year!

    Kelly, your photography looks great! Congrats on your business! Get back into that running. I'm in the same boat, returning to it and while it's hard, it's well worth it. I look forward to reading your race reports this year.

    Kelly, I do not know how I am just getting to this blog now! You are so right....YOU HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE AND WILL SUCCEED AGAIN! I see the determination in you....a FIRE that I haven't seen in a while!

    Thanks girls. I appreciate the support. Really there are only about 6 people on here that I really stayed connected with or really knew their story to be able to follow them and you two were some of the ones I actually talked to...

    Yay, you're back! It's so good to hear from you. Congrats on the success of your business. Even though your fitness suffered, you should be proud at how you have built up your business. Let's hope 2012 brings you a little more balance.

    I know what it's like to slide backward. Life has been crazy for me in the past 6 months, leading to an 8-pound gain. It happens, and now all we can do is move forward and do our best.
