To heavy to exercise...

I remember when I was alot thinner years back. I had a friend who I was exercising with who was aas heavy as I am now if not a little heavier. She couldnt do alot of exercises on the workout video we where doing together. I couldnt understand why bccause even though I was not as heavy as her I was still heavy and could understand what the difference of 100 lbs or so would cause her not to be able to move the way I could. We where both still very fat. I have been very committed with going to the gym and spending lots of time on the eliptical machine and bike. I can go for 60 minutes and have a great workout. But, today I bought the Jillian Michaels yoga video and after 10 min. if that of doing the video. It was to hard to keep bringing my body into constant different motions one after the other. Going up and coming back down to that mat. That was also the begginers level. I have been really doing alot of mindful work and commitment to calorie cutting. This tonight with the video made me feel sad. At a loss, to accept that my fat partial inhibits my mobility due to my weight. It felt like I dont need weights to work out, because the weights where me trying to hold my weight up and that is too much for me to hold. I know all the weight that I put on was the weight I bear in me of pain, loss, fear, anxiety, e.t.c. I keep repeating over and over in my head this has to stop. I dont want to bear this weight anymore. I want to come out of my shell, my mold and breath in the natural size I was meant to be. I feel sad I couldnt do that video. That I have to accept that I am so overwieght I need to lose weight first in order to do certain workouts. It is what it is, but it just was like a pinch of a needle that touched my body of pain. That I am trying to do the right thing to lose weight, but I have to be choosy about what I do because I am to fat to do everything. This pushed me to remember what is important and get to a natural weight for myself. emoticon

    Just keep moving. There are things I can't do, but I modify, or skip that one and do something else. You'll find something you enjoy and can do NOW. Try that workout again next week (or today), and you'll probably find it a little easier.

    Don't let your experience with Jillian's Yoga discourage you. She is quite the task-master. I think her workouts (as she wants you to do them) are great if you are in the shape her demonstrators are in. emoticon Her workouts are definitely not what to begin with. Keep searching for something more gentle for you now and you'll be surprised how far you'll improve in no time. Try your local library for ones that you can borrow and try out to see if they suit you before you spend money on one.

    oh mija, any activity at our size is better than no activity. Just keep busy, keep trying. If you get 5 minutes today, may be only 4 tomorrow, but next week up to 10. it is the progress that is important. You Can Do It! emoticon

    PLEASE please please do not feel discouraged doing yoga meltdown - Jillian is a tough biatch!! Her workouts r no joke! My advice: Stick with it! Even if its staying on level 1 for like 3 months! YOU.WILL.IMPROVE! When I started her 30 Day shred, I stayed on level 1 for a month and a half before I moved on!

    Listen to what she says throughout the DVD, she's encouraging and talks like she's chillin right there with you

    Keep ur chin up! emoticon I promise if you stick with it, this time next month you will have improved 10fold!

    Are you talking about Yoga Meltdown? If so, please don't feel bad about not being able to do that one. I'm in pretty good shape. I run, alot. I lift heavy weights. I can do more push ups than any man I know...but I can't do Yoga Meltdown.
    I've tried a few times but turn it off after a few minutes. Maybe yoga (or that kind at least) just isnt' for me.

    Do you have other dvds? Try another Jillian dvd - or a Bob.

    Oh my goodness I can totally relate to what you are saying :( I watched the infomercial for The FIRM Express, where people lost 15 to 20 pounds in a month by doing a 20 minute workout three times a week. It was only $100, so I bought it. I couldn't even get through 7 minutes of it without breathing profusely and having to stop. They were doing the moves so fast, and afterward, my knees felt sore from the squats (which tells me I was probably doing them too fast for good form). It was very depressing, and even caused me to binge eat that night :(

    The good news is that you don't have to do those insane "quick-results" workouts to see results. Basic exercises like walking, jogging, using the elliptical at the gym, and basic slow and steady strength training (2 sets of squats, push-ups, and crunches) are enough to get you going. This is already a time of transition for you...start slow and you won't give up.

    There's nothing like beating ourselves up because we can't do things because of weight, whether that's an exercise video, walk a mile, going on a rollercoaster, playing with our kids, etc. It's a vicious cycle of depression and eating to console yourself, or losing weight in an unhealthy manner out of desperation. Don't give up!!! The best thing to do is lose weight healthily (is that a word?? haha) and focus on all the things you can do. Use it as a motivator, something like "When I lose 15 lbs, I'll be able to __________", "When I lose 15 lbs, I'll feel better about ___________". Keep it up girl!!! Slow and steady wins the race!

    Start slow - that is SparkPeople's motto. I don't know anyone who does yoga perfectly right out of the gate. Maybe just start with a few stretches that are in the video. Or only do half of the poses.

    I wish you lived in New Zealand near me as I would love to support you and a very practical and doable way would be to go walking with you. Please don't feel discouraged by what you can't do - focus on what you can - it's possibly more than what you think you can (if you're like me and doubt yourself and abilities)

    If you feel self conscious about going out for a walk when people can see you, then go early in the morning - trust me, those who see you at that time will be full of admiration for your efforts.

    My daughter keeps asking me to go to the gym with her to different classes.
    I keep joking that I would die of a heart attack and make light of it, but deep down I would LOVE to go.
    It makes me really sad too that I cannot do a lot of stuff because I am simply too fat.
    But we can't let that bring us down,because we'll eat more and just get fatter-that's an excuse to eat.
    We should get motivated and lose weight so we can do it.
    Don't give up, you'll get there.

    Is there any way you can view this as a new way to track success?? I mean, you had a hard time with it today and it made you feel sad, but if you stick with it you will get better and better and with time sadness and frustration will turn into pride and joy!
    Yoga is difficult and JM's videos are no picnic either. Don't give up on it the first time you try it, rather give yourself time to become good at it, then congratulate yourself for your success.

    i feel the same way. back pain has kept me from walking so tonight i bought a chair aerobics DVD. I've got to get moving, someway somehow. you can do it too. emoticon
