The Wise Men had wide life experience and knowledge of science. They probably thought they knew something about love. And then they knelt before Love, and everything they'd known became as nothing. The joy they experienced in the presence of the Infant Jesus far surpassed any celestial sighting"

Yes, Merry Christmas. Today is the day the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany. I learned today that in the Eastern orthodox tradition, this is actually when they celebrate Christmas! (You learn something new everyday!).
Some facts thatIi know I often don't think about because we are so bombarded by the Christmas cartoons and the retail version of Christmas:
1. The bible never actually said how many Wise men there were. We have assumed three because of the three gifts mentioned.
2. The three Wise men are usually referred to as kings, but given that they were following a star, they were most likely astrologers.
3. The 3 wise men have traditionally been called Melchior, Caspar and Balthazaar. But the bible does not actually give them any names.
4. Early Christians saw the "magi from the east", who were gentiles, as a fulfillment of the words of Isaiah 60;3, "nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn".
And there's a legend that there was a 4th wise man who, in his travels, stopped to do so many acts of charity, that he didn't finally get to see Jesus until the day he was crucified.
Hope you liked the info. have a great day!
