I'm just saying NO to Nutrisystem

Friday, January 06, 2012

I'm about a month and a half into a serious effort to lose weight and adopt healthy lifestyle changes (consistent healthy eating; exercise). Starting out, I had high hopes of losing 2 pounds each week and reaching my goal weight by the end of February. Unfortunately, sticking to my eating/exercise plan has proven to be far more challenging than I thought, and I have only lost about 5 pounds so far. Instead of being proud and happy with these results, I feel frustrated because it feels like I'm making HUGE sacrifices and seeing small results. My body doesn't look any different, and my clothes are not any more loose.

This frustrated thinking had me seriously considering trying Nutrisystem after watching Janet Jackson (one of my favorite musicians) in their advertisements. I tried Nutrisystem a year ago and I lost 10 pounds (then gained it back obviously). I figured that it would be a "jumpstart" to my weight loss efforts...

Then I read CHRISTINA791's blog, "Taking success for granted..." It reminded me that the "basics" of consistently following a nutritional eating and exercise plan is the BEST and quite possibly the ONLY way to lose weight permanently and be free of the fad diet rollercoaster for good. It also reminded me that patience and dedication really do pay off - she's now training for a half marathon - running a marathon is on my "bucket list."

So I'm saying NO to Nutrisystem and yes to being consistent and patient and changing my life for good!

I agree nutrisystem and any other pre-package meal isnt a good for longterm. To me they dont teach you the tools you need to succeed afterwar you stop their meals. Keep up the good work.

Good decision!! I am really tempted by the commercials this time of year, too! I love Janet's music (and she was a true lady on the Celebrity Apprentice!). I honestly agree that there's nothing better than Spark People's approach to slow, steady, weight loss that will stay off in the long run.

Good call! I don't have time to list the many reasons why, and my apologies to anyone who IS on it (no judgments, just personal experience and education talking here) but NS is basically ALL processed food, filled with preservatives and additives which destroy health and make it all but impossible to create a long-term sustainable healthy lifestyle.

I've heard so many stories about people going on Nutrisystem and losing their gallbladders! Plus, it's SO expensive...instead, invest in a couple nice new pieces of cookware and start experimenting! :-)
The best part about making your own food is that you know everything that's in it... Nutrisystem freaks me out...and if RATS won't eat it...

HA! That's so funny SEMICHARMED! Nutrisystem meals are highly processed, kind of like space food - it has always amazed me that the dinners don't need to be refrigerated. I'm trying to eat fresh and get rid of the preservatives, so it would be a mistake to go on this plan for MANY reasons.

THANKS for the support guys. This website is making ALL the difference for me :)

I just read a story about a women who tried Nutrisystem but couldn't stomach the food. She stored the leftovers in her basement. A year later some rats moved in and ate everything - except the Nutisystem!! Ack!! Glad to hear you're not going back on it, lol.

I think too focusing on what it is doing on the inside for your body helps - it is getting healthier with every good choice you make with food and exercise. Only 5 lbs? Be proud! That is something! It takes a lot of time for our bodies to adjust, keep at it and going strong!
