Attack of The Pomegranate

Friday, January 06, 2012

I love love love pomegranates and pomegranate season makes me very excited. The downside to eating pomegranates is they are difficult to dispatch. I have seen some handy dandy ways to cut them open and taps the seeds back, but you was seeds when you do it that way. So I have eaten pomegranates a few days in a row, and the acid is really eating away at my fingers. My nails are shot. Then it happened. The attack...

I was pulling apart a section to get at the seeds when my thumbnail slightly separated from the quick underneath. Probably no deeper than a paper cut, but from that point forward every I tried to use the injured thumb in the process it felt like the entire thumbnail was being peeled back and a little lemon juice poured in. It was horrible, and I had to get creative with how I torn the pomegranate apart.

BUT

I succeeded in pulling the pomegranate completely apart, and harvested all the seeds without the wastage I would have had if I had cut it in half.

I WIN

I will; however, lay off the pomegranates for a few days to let my thumb heal.
