I have to get back into the swing of things again. I have been off of SparkPeople (and my diet) since later August. My husband injured himself at work. Rotator messed up, clavicle messed up, and, the piece de resistance, he tore his bicep right off of his arm! Physical therapy, orthopedic surgeon (Dr Kaplan is awesome!) and finally, surgery in early December. Still a long way to go in recovery. Doctor says at least another two to three months. So much for him riding his Kawasaki at Bike Week in Daytona! I usually drive my van there, so it won't be that big of a deal for me. Him, not so much. He's been riding bikes since he was our middle daughter's age.
Oh, yeah, in the meantime, our second car, er, jeep, went on the fritz. And I don't mean the name of the road you turn on just before ours. I mean, totally dead, have no idea how or when we are going to fix it. So, we are down to a one-car family. Which is fine, except when he's got an appointment. He has to take me to work, a 40-minute drive from home, go to his appointment, do whatever else, and drive back to pick me up. Now that school's started, it gets more complicated since the girls ride the bus now. Bus gets to the stop at 7:43, I have to leave the house at 7:10. Thank God for good friends (I'm looking at you, Yaitza, and Makayla's grandma Irene). Our oldest is eleven, so we would like to have her be "in charge" on days like that. But, she does not get along with her middle sister, so we are easing into allowing them to catch the bus alone.
So, not only did my husband have to have surgery, my dad did, too. Diagnosed with emphysema last year, pneumonia that would not go away, they finally found the nodule in his lung. They were going to biopsy it, but somehow got postponed. So, the weekend of Thanksgiving, he had to go into the hospital for chest pain. His lung collapsed! Trying to reinflate, they find a huge (size of your thumb) hole in his lung. So, they scheduled surgery to fix it. They decided to biopsy the nodule, but at the last minute, decided to take out the entire lobe! He's recovering, but he's got a long way to go.
Oh, yeah, I must not forget. In the hustle and bustle of what is the Holiday Season, my husband found his son. Or, rather, his son found him. On Facebook! He's 21, and his mom basically took him away from his father. Mutual friends lost touch, mom's parents moved so many times, noone knew where he was. His name was changed, not his mom's nor my husband's, so we could not find him that way. On literally the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Jimmy received a message on Facebook from his son. Well, some talking on FB and on the phone, and a little help from a friend of the son (Trenton), and we are meeting up in Waycross at Jimmy's brother's house, on our way to the farmhouse in Surrency. Everyone was ecstatic. Jimmy's nephews have another "boy" cousin, our daughters have a brother. And, of course, father and son reunite. Spent a nice weekend with the family, went back home, and been in touch ever since. There are plans to bring him back down for Bike Week. So far, so good.
So, I guess that's it. I can't really remember much else, so I guess we had a pretty good year. Aside from all of the deaths in my husband's family (grandma and granpop in the Spring, cousin in February, almost lost an aunt in the Summer-grief over her son in Feb, step-dad's girlfriend-mom died the year before-in November, and another aunt in December) 2011 was decent. School is okay, youngest is in Kindergarten, doing great. Finally got her in a class, since she had three different teachers in the first two months of school. Loved the first, second was eh-ok, third is awesome! Christmas was great, the girls made out like bandits. Hopefully, 2012 won't be so memorable lol. Maybe memorable-good, just nothing like 2011!
