Reason #1: My Dad

Today I took a 35 minute walk on the treadmill (2 miles) and did lat and ab work.

Why do I want to get in shape?

Reason #1: My Dad.

My Dad, age 63, has had two heart attacks.

Overweight all his life, he's also stubborn and kind of delusional about the whole thing. For example, lately he's been experiencing kidney stones, and he likes to tell everyone that the doctors told him he should NOT eat vegetables, because that's not good for him. Mhmm. But a bacon cheeseburger is?

Also, he likes to tell anyone who'll listen that the doctors have told him he has a very low percentage of body fat, and in fact he's mostly muscle. Though he's barrel-chested, anyone who would take this seriously doesn't know what they're talking about.

Rather than be blessed with my teeny-tiny Mother's genetics, I take after my Dad. This means that if I don't watch it I'm likely to develop heart problems and the works.

Which isn't going to happen, because I won't let it.

I don't want my son (and husband) to be like me, worried when the phone rings that it's going to be THE phone call from the hospital.

So yeah, that's the first of a bunch of reasons I'm doing this.

I love my dad, despite his frustrating me sometimes. I'd like him to be around for a long time, especially now that my son is in the world and adores his Grandpa. Last time I got serious about losing weight, he dropped some pounds too - without me even asking about it...
