The decision to run the Miami Latin Music RNR half was a last minute kind of thing.
Suezette was kind enough to offer me space in her room and a ride to Miami from her house!
I hit the road a little late Saturday after working a local 5k for my track club and watching my boys in the Christmas parade. I made it to Suezette's house around 12:30 and we hit the road soon there after. Once we got to Miami we hit the expo where we met up with Sharon and Dana, picked up our packets, had some pizza and headed to check in.
Out hotel was quite strange. There were glass walls from the room to the bathroom, the hallways were blue with dark blue lighting, the lobby had some half of a face table, and a plastic thrown.
There was little sleep that night due to the horns honking, and people talking so needless to say, 5:15 came early. We all got up and ready but missed the HF/MM picture but no biggie.
I got to corral 5 and piled in. It was a small race for a RNR event but I was happy with that. I don't really like the larger runs so much. Suezette and I snapped a pic before the race.
The race started pretty much on time and we were off. My legs felt like lead from the get go. Suezette stayed with me until mile 6ish when my hamstring started bothering me to the point that I needed to walk more and couldn't keep pace. A few miles later I backed down to 1:1 and my hamstring was screaming. I stopped to stretch it about every half a mile or so and my legs were so heavy! I snapped this picture around mile 10 or so when I saw another rain cloud coming to cool us off. We got rained on around mile 5/6 too!
I struggled to even keep 1:1's after this point but knew that there were only a few miles left and I was done! The finish line was on the beach and was pretty cool! I finished in 2:48:25.
Not my best, but not my worst either so I will take it!
The finishers medal:
The after party featured Pitbull and was amazing!! He is 1, HOT, 2, a fantastic performer and 3, Hot! LOL!
It was also to know that Kara Goucher was there and I saw her on stage! She is my running IDOL!!
My new training plan with my running coach starts this week and I am excited and nervous all at once!!
I am excited to have such an accomplished runner help me with my training one on one but afraid to injure my self or start to hate running.
I have some lofty goals for my self. Some short term and some long term and I know that the only way I will see results is if I make some changes. I get that. I just don't want to hate running!
I had my first run today and it went great!
1 mile warm up, two miles of interval pick ups then a one mile warm down. I did 4 miles in 44:43 so not too bad for day one!
