1 week from my first 5K

Sunday, December 04, 2011

Well, not a lot of time today so I figured I'd just throw up an old fashioned blog post :-)

We hosted a birthday party for my (newly turned) 6 year old daughter. After sifting through the rubble after the 15 little girls left, I somehow still found the energy and motivation to hit the gym and run a 5K on the treadmill.

My goal initially was to run consistently through the race (no walking) and try to stay around 32 minutes for the whole thing. I felt like it was both realistic and enough of a good healthy push from a goal standpoint.

Running on the treadmill indoors is widely viewed as "easier" than street running. Concrete is hard on the lower legs (although asphalt is somewhat less so), and the wind and the cold do account for being a factor as well.

I finished 3.1 miles in 29:40, so I'm feeling pretty good about next week. Morning after and I feel very strong (no pain or soreness).

Here's to a couple more training runs and lots of stretching this week.

By the way - thanks for the comments and the blog views. For some reason the video blogs seem to get more?
