Recognizing Priorities and Working With Them

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I have a cd series put out by Chalene Johnson (creator of Turbo Jam, Turbo Fire, and Turbo Kick) called Car Smart. While the girls slept on the way home from Rochester last weekend, I listened to the first cd - the first step to success. On that cd, she says that someone asked her what the very first step was. First she thought it was a to-do list. Then she thought it was setting goals. Then she realized it's neither. It's deciding what your priorities are. What's REALLY important to you? Is it making money, your family, your health, your spirituality? Once you recognize your true priorities and list them in order of importance, you can set your goals and to-do list up accordingly. If you're working really hard at something that isn't lining up with one of your top priorities, it's going to feel like a struggle and you won't be truly successful or happy. That really spoke to me. I am only truly happy if I'm able to do for my husband and family. But I can't do that if I'm unhealthy. And, I have to admit that after I lost the weight, I kinda relaxed on my laurels as they say. I figured I had done the work and deserved the rest. Well, I'm back at it and happier than ever! Feeling good about myself and what I'm working towards!

I fully agree! You need to know what your core values are. Your goals need to align with those values to truly make you happy.

Your thought of "I can't do that if I am unhealthy, reminds me of the analogy of low cabin pressure when you are flying and the oxygen masks fall down. They always instruct you to put yours on first, not your children, and not your neighbor. Why? By putting your mask on first you can better help everyone else get theirs on. Yes you need to take care of yourself for them!

PS: We all slip a little. The good news is we can recover. We know what to do!
