Thoughts on 1,200-1,500

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

I have never counted calories before. I must say I was shocked the first few days of recording my intake. I was consuming ALOT of empty calories.

I have appreciated having to stay in the 1,200-1,500 calorie range because it is making me mindful of what I put in my body. Are these meaningful calories or empty calories? Is this splurge worth it? Am I REALLY hungry? Will this keep me full until my next meal?

I never asked those questions before. If I was hungry, I ate. In my 20's, I could get away with that. I am a relatively healthy eater. Portions didn't cross my mind nor did food labels. The 10lbs I have not been able to shake are a direct result of my belief that mindful eating wasn't necessary.

I realize it is. As I approach my week 3 weigh-in I feel I have gotten the hang of meeting my daily caloric goals. I am figuring what to put in etch meal to help me stay satisfied and energized until the next. Measuring cups and label reading are becoming a habit.

I only wish I had figured this out sooner. I need to balance food and exercise and I am glad sparkpeople is helping me figure out how. The 1,200-1,500 plan ain't so bad.
