C25K Update

Saturday, November 12, 2011

I never thought of myself as a runner. Far from it! I submerged myself in band (both in high school and in college), playing instruments and spinning rifles and flags in the colorguard. You would think after embracing my inner geek that I would be content with just being the non-jock kinda gal.

That was until January 2010. I signed up for my 1st (walking) 5K and have been hooked ever since!

Then came June 2011 when I decided to step it up a notch and start running. That's when I started my C25K program. I've been running on and off for the past 4 months and I can honestly say I like to run. Weird, I know!

I completed two (running) 5Ks in October and I am signed up for my 1st half marathon in February 2012.

I can not tell you what has motivated me to do this. I can tell you, though, that I am in tune to my body. I listen to what it tells me to do. When it wants to walk, then I walk. But most of the time it wants to run! I'm still in shock and denial.

I guess at this point I could be very cliche and say "If I can do it anyone can do it", but then I would be lying to you. Not everyone can do it because they don't WANT to do it. I have been blessed that I have both the want AND the desire to keep pushing myself to the next level.

And the benefits? Having a complete stranger tell your husband that he married a "trophy wife". Who would've thought???

I'll take it.
