Not The Usual Monday Blues

Monday, November 07, 2011

I came into work feeling pretty hyped after that game last night. I am still kind of bummed about my foot acting up (I am going to try to not walk on it as much as possible and just use the stationary bikes for a couple of weeks to see if that helps, but the big problem is that as a side effect of one of the surgeries my toes are curled / bent upwards and they rub against any closed toed shoe and get badly blistered and from there easily infected. Not even multiple layers of socks seems to help), but overall I am doing well. Until I got the email from my night job boss.

No, I wasn't fired or anything. I am just put out because I spent a lot of time working on a project that I just found out is getting used as a throw away game. I host bar trivia in a couple of different locations around the greater Baltimore area and sometimes we have theme games, usually on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I worked really hard on putting together an all NFL trivia game to be used as a theme game. At first I hoped that we would have the game during the Ravens' bye week, but that came and went. I suggested that we do it on the Sunday after Thanksgiving since the Ravens play on Thanksgiving night and they aren't going to have a game that day but I never heard back from the boss.

Today he told me that we were using the game this Saturday, which I had already seen on our website. So why is that a throwaway when I said that we do theme games on Saturdays? Because this coming Saturday is the company's latest Championship Game (we have qualifying tournaments throughout the year, each ending in a game where the winning team wins cash money, usually $1000 or more). The game that I worked really hard on is going to be used at one location (so I don't even get to host my own game that I wrote which also sucks) and it will be at a dinky bar in Dundalk after the Championship game (this place in Dundalk has been averaging about 4 or 5 teams a week and at least one of those teams will be in the Championship game and therefore not at the regularly scheduled game. PLUS the guy hosting it hates sports. So what the hell? I feel like my hard work is getting flushed down the drain. And that is not how I wanted to kick off my Monday morning.

Hopefully the class I am going to go teach this afternoon will cheer me up.

I did. I always enjoy this class. I have been invited to come back to my alma mater the last few years as a guest artist to work with the comedy class. Watching the students "find their funny" always pumps me back up.

Yeah, that does suck. To put a lot of time and effort into something and then find it relegated to the outfield is the pits. I'm hoping that you are feeling better after your
    class! emoticon
