Personal Distance Record

Saturday, November 05, 2011

One of my spark teams was joining a virtual race that was supposed to be completed this week. We had the choice of doing 5k or 10k, running or walking, etc. I'd entertained the idea for a while, but I've also been very out of it for a while. Exercise is spotty. Weight is going up. Motivation is going down.

I don't know what reminded me, but I realized this morning that today was the last day to do the race if I was going to participate. I had already decided to run this morning, so I just decided I'd do the 10k. I've never done a 10k before. I'm more of a miles kind of girl. I'd done 6 miles once long ago, but never more. (A 10k is 6.2 miles.)

Off I went on the treadmill. Set for steady pace. Popped in "Pride and Prejudice" to keep me entertained, and ran the whole thing. I was wondering if I'd make it... I hadn't run at all for a week and a half, I wasn't well hydrated, and I haven't been eating for "performance" so to speak. But I did it.

6.2 miles in 61:37
