The nerve of some doctors!

Friday, November 04, 2011

I suffer from bipolar disorder and have a doctor who isn't very helpful (he told me I was too old for him to do anything else with my meds to help me.) I don't like him - can't imagine why. Actually, I didn't like him before he told me that - I didn't like him from the word go. I discussed it with my PCP and she contacted a colleague in the mental health department and got me a recommendation for a psychiatrist who would be better suited for me. So I made an appointment. Yesterday someone from the mental health department called and told me the new doctor has the same treatment philosophy as my current doc and that she didn't think it was worth making a change. I was dumbfounded. I explained my issues and why I wanted to change and got a lot of blah, blah, blah back. Finally I said let's cut to the chase - is she refusing to see me. The answer? No,no, BUT blah, blah blah. We were on the phone for 15-20 minutes going around and around. The end result is that I have an appointment with a doc (the new one) who apparently has no interest in helping me. Yea! I can't wait!
