Clean Bill Of Health!

A few weeks back, probably about 4 weeks ago now I went to my family doctor for an annual physical. HA! Who am I kidding, a physical that I haven't done in so long I can't even remember the last time it was. I don't go to the doctor often for myself - a good example of how little I go, when I went to renew my son's health card, they needed to see mine also. This was December 2010, my card had expired 2 years prior which meant I hadn't used it in the time between. Anyway, I'm getting off track. I went to my appointment and had the usual stuff checked, and a requisition in hand for blood work, urinalysis, and an ECG. So I got all my stuff done. And my doctor wanted to see me when all the results had come back to review everything. Now I know that in the past I've never gone back just to see results - generally, call me if something is wrong. Apparently, as patients get 'older' he likes to review the information with them. On some level I fear doctors, I fear that they are in a position to find something that could be life-threatening. Ugh. All the more reason to go regularly though for check-ups, I know I know. So I went in for my follow up, and sat waiting ever so anxiously to be called in. My time came, and we sat down while he pulled out about 5 pages of reports. We went over EVERYTHING! I was pleasantly surprised ~ I'm healthy!!! Woot woot! My blood pressure had been good. My cholesterol levels - all 4 are great. My blood work was good - no signs of like leukemia or anything. My ECG - good heart. Liver functions - check, kidney - check, and there was so much more I can't even remember it all. So despite being over-weight still, I'm otherwise in good shape! I'm excited about this. A few years ago - I don't know that this would have been the case. There is high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes which are all complications in my family. There are also cancers that run in my family - both sides, and heart conditions. And I'm so glad that I'm hopefully avoiding these by choosing to live a healthier lifestyle now. I'm just so thankful to be given a stamp of good health! I seriously have NO excuse to not pursue vigorous physical activity and get this weight off. And next fall when I go for my next physical - I will go and I will weigh-in healthy too!
